DOUGLAS OWENS-PIKE
I’m the author of Beautifully Sustainable and a recipient of many awards for my designs and landscaping innovations. Breaking barriers held by old horticultural models.
Together we transform landscapes from drug-dependent green rugs to habitats that sustain a diverse panoply of life, from the soil on up to the treetops. These are the very creatures most endangered by human destruction of natural areas.
My practice extends to teaching, writing, and consulting with clients to share insights gained from three decades of practice. Sadly, despite clear evidence of the positive effects of shifting to native landscapes, including:

-
Elimination of toxic chemicals
-
Time saved
-
Benefits to soil & water quality, as well as rebounding numbers of native pollinators and wildlife
there is still a staggering disconnect.
Our prevailing culture is dedicated to sterile lawns.
We’ve been sold an unhealthy bill of goods.
My job is helping people make the shift to recognize natural values through gentle transitions. Subtly change up a corner without calling undo attention. This can be transformational. Even a small area can become an oasis for beautiful flowers, butterflies, native bees and birds that depend upon one another. This new life raucously calls out, “More space!” Neighbors are inspired. They enlarge their natural areas. Some replace their manicured lawns entirely.
Assets that grow from native-dominated properties become harder to ignore. The personal enrichment of my clients – especially those who were most resistant – has been a delight.

Transforming human awareness is intricately connected to nature, who has become my partner.

My path has converted doubters to more deeply satisfied individuals, who’ve turned into some of the most ardent ecological evangelists I’ve known. And they, in turn, help grow the movement.

MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
Given Doug's 30+ years planning, transforming, and nurturing native landscapes, consider signing up for our MENTORSHIP program. From his awareness, learn techniques to most effectively implement rewilding.
Our program is easily adapted to your skill level, time available, and budget. This could be weekly, monthly or a more intensive schedule. Payment could be as simple as work exchange while you learn. We have a separate guest apartment for those who desire a more intensive experience. Consider a week, month, or full growing season. We also have research options during our dormant season.
