Since 2017, Douglas has led the Lower Chippewa Invasives Partnership (funded by the Gale Foundation): removing invasive buckthorn and replacing it with a mix of native trees and shrubs. This project is ongoing and includes collaboration with faculty and students from the adjacent Menomonie High School and nearby University of Wisconsin Stout Ecology Club.

Assisting the Chippewa Falls Garden Club in Irvine Park resulted in Douglas receiving an award at the 2025 annual meeting of the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation where he gave a keynote address, "Growing Wild for Pollinators."
